Common materials for the outer cover and drum liner

2025-07-21

In industrial equipment, the outer cover and drum liner are key accessories, and the material selection of them directly affects the performance and service life of the equipment. The following are some common materials and their characteristics:

Common materials for the outer cover
1. Metal material
Aluminum alloy: Aluminum alloy is lightweight, high-strength and has good corrosion resistance, making it suitable for scenarios where the weight of equipment needs to be reduced. It also has good thermal conductivity and electrical conductivity, making it suitable for devices that require heat dissipation or electrical conduction.
Stainless steel: Stainless steel has excellent corrosion resistance and strength, and is suitable for use in damp or corrosive environments. It also has good impact resistance and durability, and can effectively protect the internal components of the equipment.
Steel: Steel features high strength and durability, making it suitable for equipment that needs to withstand significant mechanical impacts. Steel has good processing properties and can be processed into complex shapes.

2. Plastic material
ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene) : ABS is a common engineering plastic with excellent mechanical properties and chemical corrosion resistance. It is lightweight, easy to process and shape, and suitable for large-scale production.
PC (Polycarbonate) : PC has excellent impact resistance and transparency, making it suitable for equipment that requires high transparency or high strength. It also has good heat resistance and chemical corrosion resistance.
PA (Polyamide) : PA features excellent mechanical properties and wear resistance, making it suitable for equipment that requires high wear resistance. It also has good chemical resistance and heat resistance.

3. Composite materials
Glass fiber reinforced plastic (FRP) : FRP combines the high strength of glass fiber with the light weight of plastic, featuring an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance. It is suitable for equipment with high requirements for lightweight and high strength.
Carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) : CFRP features a higher strength-to-weight ratio and better fatigue resistance, making it suitable for high-performance equipment.

Common materials for drum liners
1. Cast stone material
Cast stone is a kind of silicate crystalline material, featuring high hardness and excellent wear resistance. It has a simple manufacturing process and a low price, but it has poor plasticity, is difficult to machine, and has relatively poor toughness and impact resistance.

2. Alloy material
Alloy material liners include cast iron, wear-resistant steel and new alloys, etc. Alloy liners have strong plasticity and their toughness and hardness can be changed by adjusting the alloy ratio and forging process. However, the hardness and weldability of alloy materials are mutually restrictive; when the hardness is high, the weldability will deteriorate.

3. Ceramic material
Ceramic liners have extremely high hardness and wear resistance, making them suitable for high-wear environments. It also has good corrosion resistance and thermal shock resistance, but it is rather brittle and requires careful installation and replacement.

4. Rubber material
Rubber liners have excellent impact resistance and wear resistance, and are suitable for handling low-hardness materials. It also has good elasticity and can reduce vibration during the operation of the equipment.

5. Polymer materials
Polymer material liners have excellent wear resistance and impact resistance, and are suitable for medium-hardness materials. It also has good chemical resistance and is suitable for corrosive environments.

6. Composite materials
Composite material liners combine the advantages of different materials. For instance, embedding metal strips in rubber liners can enhance the wear resistance and impact resistance of the liners.
By rationally choosing the materials of the outer cover and the drum liner, the performance and service life of the equipment can be improved according to the specific working conditions and requirements of the equipment.
